Choosing The Church For Life

Amen. Yeah, that's better. All right, let's look into the word of the Lord. And I really like what uh Pastor Enoch has started. Let's say three weeks ago. We are on the fourth week right now. We are doing a series on the church. And I really love the church. I love the church. Why? Because I mean I'm really a little bit more passionate about the church. I remember, like, you know, I mean, I was teaching in a Bible college, and uh I felt that, you know, that's my ministry, that's my calling. God called me to uh teaching ministry and all. But then I suddenly got this opportunity. The rule was, I mean, everybody who teaches in the Bible college has to have a role in the church. So reluctantly I became part of the church, and that time we used to call it the Pearl City, Pearl City Church. Reluctantly, I became part of it, but then a few years later, I was given an option, either continue teaching or join the church. Because the church started to grow. I just felt the Lord telling me, go choose the church, go build the church and all. But then I said, God, my gifting is something else. But then the Lord said, I will still use you powerfully in the church context. Since then, for the next 18 years, I was just pastoring different churches and all. And believe me, no regrets. I'm so happy, so so blessed to be part of the church. Remember, I told you a couple of weeks ago, there are two things, let's say, mean that will never really have an end, that will last forever. The word of the Lord will continue forever. Remember the words, heaven and earth will pass away, but the word of the Lord will continue. The second one is the family of God. God's family is here to stay and continue to stay. The earth will go away, heavens might disappear, but the family of God here on the earth, or let's say the church of God, we will worship him, but after the earth is gone, in his presence, we will still continue to worship him. So that's why I say, I mean, whatever you want to do, if you want it to be eternally relevant, do it for the house of the Lord. You know, I don't mean telling that, you know, buy properties for the house of the Lord, give off a big donation and all. It's good if you do all of that. What I'm meaning is if you really want to do something that will last forever, lead people to Jesus Christ. Give them the gospel, let them receive, add them to the family of family of God. That work will remain remembered for all eternity. Amen.

Skills, Resources, And One Hour

All right, all of you must have received this uh a couple of weeks ago, and uh we are not really going to take this, but we want you to fill this up sometime during the message. Fill this up why? Because this is the commitment that you're making towards the house of the Lord. Three questions that we that we are asking, or three things that you need to ponder on. Number one, you need to think about one skill that you have, or one skill that you can contribute towards the house of the Lord. The Bible tells time, talent, and treasure should belong to the to the Lord. Second one is one resource that you can share. There is something with you that you can offer so that the name of the Lord be glorified. And the third one, one hour a week at least, that you can that you can serve. Pastor Enoch will come later on during the message time and he will talk. I'm I'm I'm kind of you know reading this as live groups, making sure that you can give your time, not just on a Sunday, but also some time during the week to become part of a life group. And as you're doing this, let me start with this one particular verse, Haggai chapter 1, verse 7 to 8. Now, this is a powerful chapter, and the book itself is very powerful. The book is talking about mean why is the house of the Lord or the temple of God neglected? Haggai saw that everybody is busy building their lives, everybody is busy planting their crops, everybody is going about doing their own thing, but the temple of the Lord was in ruin. So let's say the house of the Lord was in ruin. So the Spirit of the Lord moved powerfully through Haggai, and this word is relevant to us today. Let's personalize this, let's read the scripture and then personalize this. Haggai chapter 1, verse 7 and 8 reads like this: it says, Thus says the Lord of hosts, consider your ways and thoughtfully reflect on your conduct. Consider your ways. So today I'm asking you to think about your ways, think about your conduct, think about what you do from Monday till Saturday. Sunday, anyway, we are holy in the presence of the Lord, right? Yeah, God expects the same throughout the week. But think about how you behave, think about what you do, think about your thought life, think about your resources, think about how you're spending your time all throughout your week. Consider your ways and thoughtfully reflect on your conduct. Go up to the hill country, bring lumber and rebuild my house, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified. Let me read it one more time. But go up to the hill country, bring lumber and rebuild my temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified. So I think the only way I can internalize this or personalize this verse is consider what I have within myself, my resources, whatever God has given me, empowered me with. Go think about it, think about your skill set, think about what you're good at. Think about all of those things. Get them, get them and build the house of the Lord. Not because I will become popular, not because it is glamorous to be seen, or not because you know I want people to say he's such a nice person in the house of the Lord. Nah, do it so that God will be pleased with it. Bring whatever you have, your energy, your labor, and do it with the intention, God, I want to please you. God, I want to glorify you. Not a name for myself, oh Lord, not a position, oh God, not the glamour, oh Lord, no, not anything, oh Lord, but to please you and to glorify you, says the Lord, accepting it as done for my glory. God is building his family, God is building his church, and he's sending us out as invitations. He's telling, go to your schools, go to your colleges, go to your cubicles, go to your MNCs, and bring people into the house of the house of the Lord. Go to the lanes and the by lanes, start inviting people so that the house of the Lord may be full. Oh, I like the church of God. Remember last week, the last time I shared, we shared one of the metaphors that is used for the house of the Lord is a bride. Christ calls his church as his bride. So he says, Respect my bride, honor my bride. And my bride is preparing for the great day of the great day of the Lord. What

Love That Makes Room For Others

we will do today is we will look at five benefits of us being a church, and then we will look at five things that we we should be doing as a church. Five things that you know we can do to make ourselves a little more, a little more stronger. Let's just go deeper into that. Just before that, you know, I forgot doing this. Can we do the QR code now? We'll just put up the QR code. Why? Because the message is long. Believe me, it is long. And I will not share everything that you see in the message, but then you can scan it and you can go through all of them. You know, I normally tend to give a lot more information, I mean on the U version Bible app than when I preach, actually. So please scan it, go through it so you can save up the message, and then whenever you get time, please go refer to refer to it. All right, let's look at the first one. Romans chapter 13, verse 10. It says, Love does no wrong to a neighbor, therefore, love is the fulfillment of the fulfillment of the law. No, I like this one. You know, Apostle Paul is writing to the Roman church, and let's say the context of this is something called as the Vika Brother principle. What do you mean? There's a situation in the church, and the situation is between the vegetarians and the non-vegetarians. Not exactly, the situation is between food offered to idols and food not really offered to idols. Should we eat the food offered to idols? Some people say no, because it is dedicated to the uh to the idol. But then some people will say, who the hell is the idol? God made all food. Ultimately, God is a creator. So what's the problem? But then Paul comes up with a solution. He comes up with like a two-kind of two-way solution. Solution number one, he says, not because it is right or wrong. It might be right for you because you're mature enough to understand it. But there is a week of brother whose faith will be hurt if he sees you partake of it. So can you keep your rights aside, your privileges aside, for the sake of the week's brother? Can you let go of it? Meaning, man, if there's somebody getting hurt because of the freedom that you have, not because it is wrong, it might be a perfectly right thing. But just because you're living in a community, can you consider? Can you adjust with your weaker, with your weaker brother, somebody who's very sensitive, somebody who's unable to, unable to face it. That's one way you deal with it. We are conscious of everyone's likes or dislikes, and we don't do things, you know, which will offend anyone else, right? Okay, pastor believes in me. Yeah, we are considerate, we are sensitive. You know, you will do that if you if if your spouse or you know, if you have a girlfriend or a boyfriend, if they don't like certain things, you will avoid it, right? Okay, be quiet. Good. That's the best way to yeah. Yeah, we are careful. And the second way that he answers is, you know, again, there was this strife going on. You know, some were telling, no, you should be Jewish if you have to be a Christian, you have to offer sacrifices, get circumcised, that, this, this, that, and all. Then I think Paul gets really fed up. He says, Why are we getting into all these things? You know, it's like you walk into a church and somebody comments on you didn't dress properly, you didn't do properly, you're wearing jeans, and the jeans has a tear in it, and you know, all those kind of or else you colored a little bit of your hair and all, or else men should not have long hair. Remember, you know, long time ago I had long hair, and people commented. Now it's like it's almost gone. Yeah, so people did comment, and like Paul got fed up with all those things, and then he comes up with a solution. He says, Man, the kingdom of God is not really about eating and drinking and all these kinds of things. But he says, righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. That's the kingdom of Kingdom of God. Believe me, in a church, if you're concerned about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost, you will not have time for politics. You will not have time to comment on the other person's behavior or way the other person's looks and all. Nah nah nah nah. You will have better things to think about if you neglect these things, righteousness, peace, joy in the Holy Ghost, then you'll get into any of those nasty things. So it talks about a church where you come and you're not condemned, where you walk in and you're not judged. I believe our church should be that way. I think the addicts should come into the church and not get judged. I people, I people with broken hearts, broken families should walk into this church and not get judged. They should be accepted because here is the place where the Lord will minister to them. And God is not going to minister just because of people on the stage. We are the church. I'm not talking about people over here, I'm talking about all of us. We behave such a way that people feel welcome into the house of the Lord. They change because they look at our lives.

Unity, Gathering, And Honoring God

The second one Philippians chapter 2, verse 1. Paul writes to the Philippian church, and the Philippian church is going through a lot of struggle. Most of this church were women, and they were also excommunicated from the city, no longer allowed to worship in the city, so they were driven out of the city. They would go outside the city, mean sit on a riverbank, and that's where they would worship the Lord. So they were going through some level of persecution. And the person who wrote this epistle, Apostle Paul, when he wrote this, he himself was in a prison. You know, we categorize this epistle as a prison epistle. You know, and one of the titles that this epistle has is it is an epistle of joy. It always makes us wonder, you know, why is a person sitting in a prison writing about joy to people who are suffering somewhere else? But then they say that's the Christian spirit. We can go through severe persecution, but there is joy inside of us. Amen? Because it doesn't come from the world, and the world can cannot really take it away. It just is inside of us. So, to a church which is struggling, excommunicated, a church which is sidelined, Paul writes encouraging to that church, and this is how he writes, he says, Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort provided by love, any fellowship in the spirit, any affection of or mercy, complete my joy and be of the same mind, having the same love, united in the spirit, having one purpose. So, one way he deals with a suffering church, he's telling, have the same way of thinking, have the same goal in your mind, so that will unite them. When they go through suffering, they all gather together and said, you know, at least we are all together. You know, I know the power of being together in bad times. You know, when you're going through a bad times, you know, okay, let me tell you a little negative example. You know, when I failed in my examination, I fought I found comfort in everyone else who failed. But like, you know, I mean, when I failed in my examination, I was like down. Till one of my friends called me, I also failed. Then I said, okay, let's gang up. That didn't really solve any problem, but just like being together, that someone else is going through the same crisis kind of brought a little bit of strength. I mean, like, you know, I'm not alone. A lot of people are going through going through this. Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should in humility be moved to treat one another more important than yourself. Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interest of others as well. You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ had. Let me read that once again. You should have the same attitude toward one another that Jesus Christ had. How do I know what Jesus felt for me or what he feels for me? You know, whenever I pray to God in my trouble, I expect Jesus to understand me, to support me, to give me that strength, to give me a breakthrough. Is that not what we expect? Be that same person. Because you know, I mean God will move among us through us. Right? I have seen those supernatural miracles, but most of those miracles or most of the way Christ worked is through a fellow Christian. So if Christ has to touch any of your family member or your relative or your friend, will be through you. Through you. Just the way you expect Christ to deal with you. When you go through a struggle, you deal with your friend, your brother, your sister, a fellow Christian in the same way. Amen. Oh, yes, when we come to church, our life should be transformed. To the Philippians, he wrote, telling, don't be too selfish, man. Get together. Let's start ministering together. Let's start talking to each other, sharing with, sharing with one another. The next one, very powerful. Hebrews chapter 10, verse 25. Now, Hebrew was written to a group of Christians who were of the Jewish background. Now, these people were Jewish people who received Jesus as Lord and Savior. But they were under pressure to leave Christianity and go back to Judaism. They were heavily under pressure to abandon the Christian way of worship, abandon Jesus Christ and go back to Judaism, sacrificial doing sacrifices, feasts, and all those kinds of things. So the book of Hebrews was written to encourage them. And that's why in this book, read in each random portion of this book, it will be targeting the Old Testament. It will be telling that, you know, hey, if you think the Levites are the greatest priests ever, Jesus is greater than the Levites. If you think that, you know, the Old Testament sacrifices are the best, Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice. I mean it is proving that you know Jesus is the fulfillment of far greater than anything in the old covenant. And part of the way this book encourages, encourages a persecuted Christian, or let's say a Jewish Christian who is under pressure. You know, these Christians are more or less like you know those who leave their faith to become Christians. And in our land, around us, I got a good number of friends, you know, even in this church. People who were kicked out of their houses because they received Jesus as Lord and Savior. Or at least you will know somebody in your circles who were going through this struggle. People who were told that, you know, they will never get married in that community, parents will not attend that marriage, no place in the inheritance, no property, even when you die, they said we will not come and see you. So these are those kind of people. They were heavy under pressure to go back. And the writer of the Hebrew gives a solution to this. And what does he say? Do not abandon your own meetings, do not avoid gathering together, as some of you are in the habit of doing, but encourage each other even more so as you see the day of the Lord drawing near. So, what does he say? If you're going through abandonment, if you're being persecuted because you are following Jesus, if your family has kicked you out because you love Jesus, do not abandon the gathering of brothers, meaning get together as a church. Get together because somewhere in that fellowship you will find the strength. Somewhere in that fellowship you will find that hope. I've seen this, I've seen this time and again. When the church comes together, there is strength in the strength in that gathering. So I'm encouraging each and every one of us. I think you know we should regularly attend the church. Amen. Yeah, I mean, you guys turned up because you are so regular, but that empty seat is there because somebody decided not to attend. So I think let's provoke each other, let's encourage each other, nudge each other, and say, please come into the house of the you know, forget. Coming to the church, I would say don't even come on time to the church, come before time to the church. And everybody stays silent. No, no, no, no. Come a little early to the early to the church. Okay, if you have a plane at eight o'clock, what time do you go to the airport? You know where I'm going, okay. Yeah, yeah. If you have to go to a movie, what time do you go? Okay, you will say you won't even see movies, all right. Either way, you know where I'm getting. I'm telling you prioritize the house of the Lord. Don't walk in late into the house of the Lord. Amen. Don't look at them. Don't look at those who walked in late today, but like you don't be the one. Or if you had walked in late, repent of it next time come early to the church. Can we try? Okay, some of you believe in me. Please, let's do it. Let's do this. You know, I think we need to build up a culture of honoring God. It will be nice if you can come early to the church, sit in the chair, spend time in prayer, prepare ourselves before the service begins. You know, there'll be a change in the atmosphere, and change also in the way you receive the word of the Lord or you worship the Lord. Amen. Let's try it out. Let's build a culture where we'll honor the presence of the Lord, honor the ministry of his word, honor the church of the church of the living God. The

Fellowship That Protects Your Faith

next one, 1 John chapter 1, verse 6. Now, this was written soon after, let's say, a heretical faction left the church. What do I mean by that? Some people walked into the church and they started teaching all wrong things about Jesus. They started teaching, I mean, they call it Gnosticism, but I don't really know. Some weird teaching about Jesus. So the church elders, so the people in the church fought with that faction and they told them to get out of the church. Then John writes a letter to them encouraging them how to prevent it from happening again. And the way he writes is 1 John chapter 1, verse 6 to 7, he says, if we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we lie and we do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sins. So what is John telling? Telling the way you can defend yourself from any wrong teaching or from being misguided is when you walk in the light. Walk in fellowship. Fellowship will keep us safe. Fellowship will keep us strong. So come together, fellowship with one another. You know, I think one of the tragedies of our church is that churches often are monologues. What I'm doing here is a monologue. I speak, you listen. I speak, you listen. I think that's not a great model of discipleship. Jesus' model of discipleship is a dialogue. They ask questions, Jesus answers, Jesus asks questions, they answer. There's a conversation, there's a dialogue that takes place. Discipleship happens in a dialogue, not exactly a monologue. And I think the only way we can achieve a dialogue in this church is through a life group. You can go open your mouth and talk and share everything. I mean, even if you're like an introvert, you can still share and somebody will be there to listen to you. Again, Pasha Enoch will come and talk about life group. Now that's very important for our church. That's very important for our growth, actually. So John writes to the church, and John says, please, please fellowship with one another. Or else somebody will come with some random teaching and they will just kind of lead you astray. The fifth one. Again, Peter writes to the church that is suffering in Turkey, or we call it the Asia Minor in the Bible. They're going through a severe persecution. And the tone of first Peter is not deliverance. Because you know, normally when I go through a bad time, my prayer to God is, God help me, deliver me, give me a breakthrough. But in first Peter, Peter is not telling any breakthrough. Peter is telling your problems will not go away. You know, oftentimes when I prayed, God gave me that answer, and I was like, Oh my God. Really, all that God said is, I will be with you. He did not say that I will kind of deliver you from that problem. He said, I will strengthen you to go through that problem. Anybody like me? Anybody who went through that? God did not remove your problem but gave you grace to go through that problem. He gives us grace, he gives us that strength. So, as he is encouraging them, you read that 1 Peter epistle of 1 Peter, you will find, you know, Peter is telling, consider it an honor if you suffer for the Lord. Because you are not just partaking all the good things, but you've been privileged enough to come participate in the sufferings of the Lord also. The church went through it. The church received this epistle in a very nice way. Look at the way he talks to the church going through persecution. Honor all people, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the king, be in agreement with one another, be united in purpose and serving alongside each other. Stilling, continue your life, be together, encourage one another, grow with one another. Because when you go through a bad time, God will help you, God will be with, God will be with you. Amen. Five Practices For A Better Church

said that, let's quickly go through five ways or five things that we ought to be doing in order to make our church or this church a better place. I've took all of them from the word of the Lord itself, but I'm going to reinterpret them. Some of them are very culturally driven. You will understand when I talk about it. But then let's just go through it. Number one, I think something which we need to do here is greet one another. Everybody okay with that? Yeah, yeah. Some of you, like, you know, you walk into the church five minutes late and leave the church one minute early. Don't do that. Don't do that. Stay back, smile at one another. Make sure that you greet one another. You know, this is one of those few churches which has a large ground and all. You can do your parking, you can be around, I mean, you can do a lot of things over here. So please make sure, you know, one of the tragedies I feel I get is like, you know, mean I get to meet people every now and then, and they say, Pastor, I come to your church. And I said, Since how long you're coming? He said, for the last 10 years I'm coming. I said, I mean, I'm like, you know, I never saw you, man, in the church. Say, Pastor, I leave a little bit early. Don't do that. Make sure that you greet, greet one another. You know, I mean, I come a little early to the church, and almost in every case, the first people will be the production people, then the worship guys will come. And the first usher that I see is Brother Teja. Figure out who Brother Teja is. And you know, every time I see him, the first emotion or first thing that I see on his face is he'll smile. I never saw him like, you know, like a mean like a blank face anytime. He always smiles. And I'm I'm telling not just the usher, all of us. All of us should be smiling at each other, right? At least, you know, somebody who comes in broken will see your smile and they themselves, it's very contagious. So let's create an atmosphere where we welcome one another, well, where we greet one another. Romans 16, 16. I had to reinterpret this. It says, greet one another with a holy case, all the churches of Christ. Yeah, yeah. That is for them, not for us. For us, we do a hi-fi or we do a hand. Yeah, don't go around telling Pasharananda told all these things in the church. Everybody okay? Say yes, man. Yes, yeah. Shake hand or do a high-fi and all. You know, meaning if you're 2,000 years ago, you would have done that. All right. Second one, be kind to one another. Ephesians chapter 4, verse 32. Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you. Now, one thing I know is just because we are living together, just because we are doing life together, offense is bound to happen. So let's go. Let's go with that understanding. I mean, good times will not be there always. Offense is bound to happen one day or the other. Misunderstandings will crop up, somebody will get hurt intentionally, unintentionally. So the only way we can deal with that is keep forgiving one another. Forgive one another and move on in, move on in life. If you hold on to grudges, there's nothing much that we can achieve by holding on to, holding on to grudges. That hardness will eat you from the inside. It will also not do any good to the other person. Forgive, let go of it, move along. Learn how to move on in, move on in life. The third one: show hospitality to one another. First Peter chapter 4, verse 9. Show hospitality to one another without complaining. You know, God likes a house where there is hospitality. God likes a family where one person takes care of the other person. God likes a house. Remember in Psalm 23, he said he himself is hospitable. Even in a hostile situation, he says he spreads a table in front of us, even in the presence of our enemies. He's a good God, he treats us royally. Let's show hospitality to one another, care for one another. The fourth one, even this is powerful. Pray for one another. James chapter 5, verse 16. It says, Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness. I kind of struggle to answer, I mean, like understand this passage. It says, Confess your sins to one another, pray for one another. So that you may be. So if you confess your sins, pray for one another, they'll be healing. Is that what the word is telling? I kind of struggled, like you know, how can I go confess my sins to somebody and it brings about a healing? But then I figured out every time I shared, it made me feel a little light. Every time I shared my problems, it gave me some strength. So I do share, but I don't share with everyone. Okay, let me tell you this one. You know, I only you guys I can tell. You know, there was a time back in the day when I was growing up. I mean, there was an unwritten rule that Christians should not see movies. Anyone from that era? Oh, yeah, some of you. There was an unwritten rule. And if you see a movie, they will make you feel guilty. So one day, what a peer pressure, I went to a movie. We used to have Anand Theater right in front of Wesley College. So I jumped the wall and I went to that, went to that movie. Then I started feeling guilty. So I went to the church and I told uh one of my friends, telling, man, I'm feeling guilty, Rebe, because our church, in our church, seeing movies is a is a sin and all. So I went and attended the church, and during the prayer time they prayed for me. And I was like, fellow, I shared it only with you. You went and shared it with everybody in the everybody in the church. No, no, no, no. Just because the Bible says confess your sins, you're not confessing it with the whole world, right? And and if anybody comes and shares anything which is personal, private, I mean, don't violate that confidence. You know, I mean, don't like spread it. If you want to spread, spread the gospel instead of the gossip. Amen. Yeah. So confess your sins. Figure out with whom you're confessing, somebody who's more mature, somebody whom you can trust. Pray with one another, you will find healing. You will find healing in your healing in your life. The last one, forgive one another. Colossians chapter 3, verse 13, it says, bear with one another, forgiving one another. If someone happens to have a complaint against anyone else, just as the Lord has forgiven you, you also forgive them. If you have received forgiveness from the Lord, if God has not judged you but accepted you just the way you are, deal with other people in the same way. Let's not try to overtake our Lord. Very quickly, five things that we need to do here at our church. Greet one another. Make sure today after the service, don't run home. Have the chai biscuit, samosa, whatever they serve you, and make sure you greet everyone. At least greet the pastors and the worship team. Amen? Yeah. And then be kind with one another. Let there be kindness in just the tone of your talk. The way you talk, the way you deal with each other. Show hospitality to one another. If somebody is struggling with their children or if an elderly person walks into a church, show hospitality, treat them with respect. And then pray for one another and forgive one another. Can we do this?
